my 92 volvo sometimes wont turn over. do you know what would cause that?

I have a Plymouth Voyager 1999 3.0 liters.
Since a month there is not heating inside the vehicle and a couple of minutes of starting it, the temperature red light indicator appeared on my dashboard with a sound. Additionally the temp indicator goes to the maximum.
- Fans are working
- I have checked the thermostate and it is OK
- there is no refrigerating fluid leaks
Comment:
after 5 - 10 kilometers after the temp. went up, the temps went a little bit down, and the sound and red light temp. indicator dissapeared. It started again after a couple of kilometers.
